So many teen writers dream of holding a finished draft in their hands. You know your child has potential has a writer and can't wait to celebrate that milestone with them.
But sometimes, getting words out feels like pulling teeth. And no matter how many times they try, your child just sees a blank page staring back at them.
And maybe they start wondering if finishing a story really is possible.
That's why we created Crazy Writing Week.
The Young Writer's Workshop has run this weeklong challenge since 2020. And each year? The average participant writes 4,000 words in one week.
These weren't all super disciplined writers before Crazy Writing Week. They were normal high school and college aged students...just like your child.
Until they got the support they needed.
And then they started making serious progress:
Our instructors at the Young Writer's Workshop can't wait to help your child make some serious writing progress in January.
This is your child's chance to grow as a writer, connect with a cohort of other young writers in a safe, moderated community, and have a ton of fun at the same time.
Your child can write alongside other young writers around the world. Because writing is more fun when they do it with others!
We release 5-15 minute daily videos from published authors that help your child make progress over the course of the week.
Your child will be sorted into one of two teams of writers (Team Tea & Team Coffee) to see who can write the most in seven days!
The more words everyone writes, the more prizes your child gets, like additional writing trainings, Zoom Q&As, and even a Veggie Tales parody.
Register today to claim your child's spot in Crazy Writing Week. This is 100% free.
On January 5th, we'll group your child with other writers who compete as a team to collectively write the most.
From January 6th - 13th, students write as much as they can. The more everyone writes, the more prizes they get!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can This Really Help My Child Write More?
Last year, 2,500+ students wrote an average of 4,000 words per person over the course of the week! No matter how much or little your child has written in the past, we can absolutely help them make progress in their current writing project.
Who Can Participate?
Any writer between the ages of 13 & 25 is welcome to join us.
What Will My Child Be Writing?
Your child is welcome to work on any project they like (like a novel, short story, article, or essay for school). If they don't have any projects they want to work on, we're happy to provide some ideas.
We'll just ask your child to tell us how many words you write if they want to earn points for your team.
What's the Time Commitment?
We recommend setting aside at least 30 minutes a day for this challenge, but it's completely up to you and your child! They can spend more or less time than that and still emerge from this one-week challenge as a stronger writer.
Does My Child Have to Write At a Specific Time Each Day?
Nope! Your child can write whenever they like. But they do have to clock in and out on our website. We call it "sprinting" and we'll teach your child how it works.
How Does My Child Report Writing to You?
Once your child joins, we'll give more details on how they can report how many words they write each day. We keep the process simple and straightforward!
You Mentioned Prizes...Tell Me More!
Prizes are earned across the community as a whole. The more words students write, the more prizes everyone gets at the end of the week!
Your child could earn a special training with their instructors or even force us to create a wacky Veggie Tales parody video for them!
